Please Bring Back More "International" Foods

Wegmans New Product Idea

Submitted 8 years ago

First off, I want to say I LOVE what wegmans STANDS for, there are just a few flaws in selection.

It seems quite difficult to find plantains in WNY. I used to be able to find them occasionally at one of the 3 wegmans by me, now they are NEVER there. I do not understand why such a basic food item is so difficult to find. I DO understand that the primary demographic of your customers is most likely white or eastern European but maybe more minorities would shop at wegmans if there was better variety. I truly appreciate that you guys buy from local food sources. This is was made me finally LOVE wegmans despite the limited food options.

I also love that the Wegmans brand groceries are good quality BUT it seems as though every few months a food item I normally buy (ackee, plantains, jamaican all spice to name a few) are no longer available. Within the same state (Westchester, NY) Many of the food items that I search for in the "International" section of wegmans are just in the normal aisles of the grocery stores. Which is something else I must say is frustrating. I would love it if the international items were also dispersed where they were within the normal categories so to limit the extra mileage for something I and many others would consider a "normal" food. Due to your demographic is makes sense to keep an international section, but many non-eastern Europeans would greatly appreciate being able to find what is considered popular food items in their culture in normal aisles. An example would be having all of the "international" spices also in the regular spice aisle. Before using the app (which I prefer not to use since I have a toddler and I'm sure many of the baby boomers are not using the app either) I had left wegmans thinking that certain "normal" spices were just not available. Then after asking a few times realized they were simply in the international aisle. I would have never thought to look there since it was just a spice. This spice "jamaican all spice" is not discontinued and some weird gourmet version which tastes NOTHING like all spice has replaced it.

Well I think this concludes my concerns. I am sure if I am thinking this many other people are as well. I typically do not write customer suggestions or complaints, but I truly do love the philosophy behind wegmans and being able to eat local food so i'd rather speak up to improve it than complain and take my dollar somewhere else.

Thank you for reading.
