Expiry Date Notifications For Customers

Context: As we know every product sold will have an expiry date. Not all customers are aware or pay attention to the expiry dates mentioned on products. Consuming expired products may stand to be a health hazard. People often fall sick after consuming expired foods.
Idea: My idea is to build a Walmart app with a feature to input bill numbers of the bills customers receives at the billing counters and send them notification about product expiry a day before the marked expiry date on every product on the list.
This can be achieved by embedding expiry dates with bar-codes on the products. Whenever a customer approaches the billing counter, all the products are scanned (for barcode) and the list of all items bought is given in a printed form as bill. Every bill will have a bill number and date. All a customer has to do is enter the bill number correctly into the app (Scanning code can be implemented as well by printing a unique scan code on every bill issued) and set notifications ON. Customer gets notification on products that are about to expire in a day.
Benefits: This helps customer in not consuming the foods that are expired, getting to know which products are about to expire and plan ahead. Also, this helps in reducing the usage of expired products and actually trashing them on time.
This in a way helps in reducing food wastage as well.
