Commercial Idea

United Airlines Marketing Idea Idea

Submitted 9 years ago

Hello reader of this message,
My name is David, I am studying in Manhattan, New York to be a Graphic Designer and I have a commercial suggestion for your advertising campaign. First, I'd like to say that Rhapsody in Blue is a brilliant song choice and the way United has used it, is breath taking for me. It goes seamlessly well with the ideas, character, and values United is trying to communicate with its current and potential customers/guests. The Idea I have was to have a child with their parents, flying for the first time, lose their favorite & much needed (especially for this flight) Stuffed animal with the Captain by chance seeing this happen and retrieving it. Both must unknowingly and coincidentally get on the same plane to depart. Noticing the book bag on the back of the now crying child, the captain returns the plush toy to its owner. The captain removes the aviator glasses from his front coat pocket and placed them on the animal smiling to the now joyful and greatful child. The plane begins ascending with the child and best friend strapped in looking out the window to the setting sun fearless of the flight ahead and filled with wonder from the unexpected freindly encounter with the captain. This Idea could make a great holiday commercial as well! It came to me listening to Rhapsody in Blue specifically during the key change between the 6:30 and 8:55 minute mark of the song. I thought "how could the music in this part of the song be used and I just thought of brief loss. Some thing valuable (sentimentally) falling or going through the conveyer belt of luggage like in one of the toystory movies" which was one way the child would be separated from the stuffed animal but it felt a little cliche and I couldn't figure out how the captain would've gotten his hands on the toy to return it if it had gone through a maze of luggage. However it would increase the wonder factor if there were a way to make that possible, maybe the captain goes out of his way to get it and goes for the ride. A dramatization. This idea I feel can go anywhere, its flexibility with the music, the shooting in terms of intimate camera shots and moving up-beat shots (if that makes sense), and its story boarding is brilliant. United could do anything with the endless possibilities of this Idea and I really feel its a great way to drive home the friendliness and dedication in service that United has for their guests. Who knows maybe in another commercial that kid grows up to be a pilot in another commercial and with the same name on their name tag as their book bag all those year prior. Too much maybe right? Well I'd like to thank whoever read this for their time, patience and endurance for getting this far if they have. I hope I have placed this Idea in the right place of submission, and I hope United contacts me at least to let me know what they think of this commercial idea, and hopefully God-willing that they would like to use it. I really love the advertising that United does with the theme song they have right now and I'd be glad and honored to contribute to that advertising with this idea, and would hate to see the song and these types of commercials go. Thank you again and God bless you.

Sincerely,
David Martinez
