Sirs:
Re: New CVT automotive gearbox

I have filed a provisional patent application with the USPTO for the gearbox I have designed under application number 62681101 Herewith is some relevant information on this CVT gearbox and should further information be required, I will email the full provisional Patent application and drawings for assessment.

I would be grateful if you could pass this on to the appropriate department or person who deals with CVT transmissions or new ideas in transmissions as I am sure it will be of interest as it is a new concept.

__________________________

I have conducted a search through approximately 300 patents of CVT drives and there is nothing remotely like my design, so I am very confident that it will be a valid patent when it is finally approved and registered.

I give you the following information:

1. The overall size of the gearbox core I have designed is 310mm X 180mm X 170mm.
2. The ratio range of this design is 12.7 to 1 based on the disc diameters of 138mm. For an increase in the diameter to say 150mm the ratio will then go up to in excess of 22 to 1
3. The movement of the synchromesh control pins is only about 20mm throughout the full ratio range, with subsequent very low wear factors for the synchromesh sprockets and chains.
4. The relative amount of rotation and lateral movement of the synchromesh sprockets is very slight - not more than 35 deg.
5. The main feature is that the system is a positive drive one. The drive sprockets are always in constant mesh with the chain except for the areas where the sprockets are disengaged from the chain as rotation takes place. During disengagement the sprockets are kept in synchromesh rotation when they re-engage with the chain.
6. The electric motor that drives the ratio control assembly can be coupled to a computer controlled system whereby the gear ratios are adjusted constantly so as to keep the engine at maximum torque per revolutions at all times.
7. The design is basically very simple and will not require specialist machining or equipment to make. This is an economic advantage.
8. Because it is a direct drive system, it can cope with large power inputs.
9. The change in ratio is very quick, depending upon what speed electric motor is used, so the correct ratio for torque is instantly obtained with no "hunting".
10. It can be used very effectively for engine braking
11. It will also cope well with traction control.

I would appreciate your comments and technical opinion.

Thank you
