Write Protection Memory Stick

SanDisk Product Improvement Idea

Submitted 6 years ago

The idea is this: you have files on your memory stick and you give it to someone else, or many others like in a class. Now you don't want your stick to be infected, or your data ruined. And you don't want students to "share" their viruses. Now if you can create a write lock on a memory stick you can prevent this.
I want the write lock to be hardware: easy to see, and easy to do, easy to implement in a reliable way. For instance: The sleeve contains electronics with a unique code, via a 4 pin connector, power, and read and write. An LED with different colors show if the stick is write protect or not.
Use:
The owner puts the sleeve on the memory stick, puts on some files. Takes the sleeve off and gives it to someone else.
It is not that important to make it hack proof, but it should not be too easy to bypass the protection.
The LED indicator is needed to show that you put the right sleeve on in the right way. Otherwise you have no indication the sleeve is accepted.
