Employee Perks!

You would think that a company who raked in $38.1 BILLION DOLLARS IN 2019 would not only be able (and they are) but also willing to provide their part-time EMPLOYEES with medical & prescription health insurance coverage without hassle and inconvenience. It's bad enough that one must work there for one whole year PLUS 1,500 hours but what's absolutely atrocious is that NOWHERE on the company website does it clearly (or even vaguely) state that if you don't meet 1,500 hours by the end of your first year your 1,500 hours reset for the new year making it nearly IMPOSSIBLE to become insured as a part-time employee unless you are especially favored by a scheduling manager! No manager explains it at any point during employment, check-ins, reviews/evals, etc. It's APPALLING and Publix should be ashamed! I brought it up to an assistant store manager who told me one must work 27 hours per week to meet that goal but the assistant customer service manager won't schedule certain people 27 hours each week even when they beg for the hours. The company should do away with the 1500 work hour requirement. Treating customers like royalty while treating EMPLOYEES like they aren't valuable enough to insure is a step above chattel slavery. Publix EMPLOYEES work themselves to exhaustion daily with little incentive other than the often empty promise of comfortable retirement or becoming the next Todd Jones, while managers and corporate staff are paid & medically insured generously. I have been scheduled 14 DAYS IN A ROW more than once and still didn't have 40 hours for a single work week! Just enough to exhaust me. Long shifts some days and short, no break shifts other days EVERYDAY FOR 14 DAYS. DURING SEASON. DURING HOLIDAYS. DURING A PANDEMIC. AND THEN CORPORATE HANDS OVER A FEW TAXED GIFT CARDS THAT WE JUST TURN AROUND AND GIVE RIGHT BACK TO THE COMPANY THAT'S ALREADY SCREWING US OVER! THANKS PUBLIX.
