Child Seat Safety

Nissan New Product Idea

Submitted 4 years ago

I'm pretty tired of hearing about children dying in hot cars. I'm sure many people have offered ideas on how to prevent this. I don't understand why it's so difficult. All new vehicles have alarms and warnings built in. The car can detect a person in the seat and know if to deploy an airbag.
So technology is already built in. All new vehicles with a backseat, have built in connection points to secure a child seat. So what I'm thinking is, all vehicle manufacturers could include a plug near the child seat connection points. This plug would be wired into the vehicles alarm. Then the average user should be able to purchase a pad with a weight sensor that can connect to the plug. The pad would be placed in child seat. Once the pad detects 5 lbs or more, it activates the child seat alert system. If the vehicle ignition is turned off for more the 20 seconds and there is 5 lbs or more in the child seat, then the alarm alerts driver and no one walks away from a baby in a car seat.
