Push Mower Zero Turn Wheel Replacement Upgrade
John Deere New Product IdeaSubmitted 8 years ago
My buddy gives me a push mower. I was very appreciative. I used it a few times and the wheel assembly broke of leaving a big hole because of rust. It sat in my garage and I didn't want to get rid of it. I could have bought a new mower but really wanted to show my buddy how creative I could be and I honestly felt like it would be disrespectful to get a new one. So I decided to fix it. The hole was larger than the factory hole because of rust. I seen a Honda mower with these zero turn wheels so I decide to try and make my own version of the wheels..I cut the wheel of still attached to the front. And cut a piece of thin strut about the width of the front of the mower..I then placed the strut in the area I liked and marked then drilled holes into the top front of the mower to mount the strut to..bolts are no were near blade nor ground clearnce. I then take 2 pre made rigid 1 inch 90's and welded them onto the strut in a way that the end not touching the mower is level with the ground. I mount the 250lb capacity wheels with the ball brings to allow it to rotate 360 degrees. I used 2 inch u bolts to grab the 90 and secure it per wheel..I then tack welded the nuts on the u bolts and painted everything red so my welds won't rust...it push very smooth and turns on a dime..it's great in the garage to..it's think a kit pre made the way I have it painted, with pre drilled holes, drill bit, bolts to mount, directions with bold print YouTube link how to install and different scenarios of use outdoors and while not in use.
