The foot/guard on the BLDDW788BS scroll saw is miserable. I teach at a Middle School and have changed one of five of Dewalt's foot/guard using an old Delta foot. It is now the saw of choice for my students - especially the grade sixes.
Three problems: first - the wire foot is much too stiff to allow proper hold-down and facilitate smooth feed; second its design allows the pressure to be compromised as a cut is finishing; third there is far too much space between the wire to ensure optimal protection from the blade. We are not supposed to modify machines so I have a dilemma: do I continue to let children struggle with a second rate safety device, or do I modify the machines with a superior foot. Otherwise, the machine is superb.
Please consider my concern seriously and determine if a retrofit foot could be installed.
