Function That Locks IPhone Keyboard If Both Thumbs Are Not Detec
Apple Product Improvement IdeaSubmitted 7 years ago
Problem:
A rising problem among lots of teenage drivers and adults as well is Texting while operating a vehicle. Not only is this illegal in most states in the United States, texting while driving kills many people every day. While many people and big companies tried to solve this problem either by creating anti texting and driving campaigns or parental control apps which monitors their teen drivers while operating a vehicle, to this day nothing has completely resolved this deadly issue.
Solution:
A function which would be integrated inside the cell phone's screen which will recognize and determine if one or two thumbs is being used to type a text message or a email with the use of sensors currently installed inside the iPhone.
When most people type a message while driving, they are using one hand while keeping the
other on the steering wheel. With my technology the phone will determine if you are using one
or two thumbs. And if it doesn't detect 2 thumbs in 5 seconds since you started composing a
message the keyboard will vanish. This will only work if the phone detects the speed is over
5 mph.
Benefits:
• Reduces the amount of texting and driving amongst teens and adults
• Reduces the amount of accidents and deaths from texting and driving
• Will keep the driver focused on the road
Inside the cell phone (in this case the iPhone) there is 2 sensors relating to touch (130) and force
(110,112,114,116). With my technology the touch sensor (130) would determine either if 2
thumbs (which means both hands are being used and the driver is most likely is not operating the
vehicle) or if one thumb is being used (which means they are most likely driving). And if the
sensor detects only one thumb being used for 5 seconds, the keyboard will be hidden until the
speed reaches 0 MPH and 2 thumbs are detected.
