Tesla New Product Idea

Submitted 3 years ago

Patent No: US 10,871,018 B1
Suicide doors in automobiles first came into popularity in the 1930s, and nearly 100 years later, we're seeing them come back into style. However, modern cars force drivers to choose between the traditional orientation or the suicide orientation of their vehicle's doors. However, each of these options have their own distinct benefits, and having the option to change your car door's orientation at will can bring a whole host of advantages.

May invention allow for car owners to opt for traditional doors or suicide doors at jus the touch of a button. Smart technology switches the doors' orientation in an instant, allowing just one side to open at a time. In the case of electrical failure, the switch has a manual override, ensuring the safety of all passengers at all times. The option for a suicide door orientation is not only trendy but can also prove much easier for physically challenged and older passengers to enter and exit the car.

Benefits and Advantages
Physically challenged and older individuals often find that they have trouble entering and exiting vehicles. However, with the option for a suicide orientation, it's much easier as there is more access to the ground for stability. It's easier to put a wheelchair and other equipment in the back seat.
It's often easier to install a car seat with a suicide door orientation. Suicide doors are also popular with pickup trucks, thanks to the benefit of a larger opening, allowing large items to be loaded in the back seat.
Additionally, suicide doors are coming back into style in our society. The concept brings us back to a more carefree and relaxed period that so many of us crave. My reversible design allows the car owner to determine their preferred orientation and adjust it at the touch of a button. Safety features ensure that only one orientation can be accessed at a time, and an override system comes into play in the case of electrical failure of the vehicle.
Through this invention, the benefits of both the traditional and suicide orientations work together in perfect harmony.
Drivers are able to select their preferred orientation at will, always resting assured that their vehicle is safe and the doors are secure. The simple benefit of choice is a significant appeal of the invention.

Explanation
This invention is an automobile door that can be reversed to open in either the traditional or the reverse orientation, often referred to as the "suicide" orientation. The car door is situated into the existing cavity of the vehicle with one or more hinges connecting to the front end and the rear end of the cavity.
The device also includes a computer module that allows the user to determine which orientation they prefer. When the user selects for the rear hinges to be activated, the door will operate in a traditional way, as demonstrated by the front door in the image below. When the user selects for the front hinges to be activated, the door will operate in a suicide orientation, as demonstrated by the rear door in the image below.
The computer module is equipped to prevent simultaneous activation of both the traditional and suicide orientations. Additionally, the computer module is designed to be completely disabled in the event of an electrical failure within the vehicle, instead allowing for a manual operation in these circumstances.
