"Car Accident. Videoed myself"

On January 11, 2015 life as Andrew MacDonad knew it changed forever. Please view his video on "You Tube" and read through some of the 180 replies + comments. You will see that people from all over the world have connected with Andrew, some good some bad, but at the end of the day there is more to Andrew's story...When Andrew hit the telephone pole at 50 - 60kms an hour and came around all there was - was darkness. He did not know if he was alive or dead, he had no idea what had just happened to him at this moment all he saw was a small light from his phone. There has been ALOT of controversy over whether or not this was the most appropriate time to video himself, but in this moment of shock and fear Andrew reached for his phone - his for lack of better words "lifeline". When the screen light came on, he could see that he was in a crumpled car, not knowing how bad he was injured, Andrew turned on his camera with the reverse lens so he could see himself - he couldn't feel anything and thought that even though he was alive...could he stay alive? The video is a reflection of his experience, Yes, however, it is also a testament to the rescuer's that came to his aid and his phone that gave him a chance to see himself still alive.
I can't imagine the fear he must have felt, but I do understand the camera on his phone gave him the option to "capture" what happened to him.

I have included the "comment" that Andrew made on the video and I believe there is more to this as well.

Samsung helped save his life, he saw his reflection, he knew he was alive and he had a way to capture what might have been his last moments...Samsung gave him a distraction while the "Jaws of life" cut through his car right beside his head! His phone captured everything.

On January 11th, 2015 I fell asleep behind the wheel at 5:30 in the morning after a
night in Victoria, BC. I drove straight into a pole on the drivers side at 50 - 60km/h in Duncan, BC. Suffered a broken right arm. Broken left Femur. Broke both knee caps. And both ankles.
Went for major surgery in Victoria which took total 14 hours over a couple days, 10 hours on January 12th and 4 hours on January 13th. Metal plates and screws in everything I broke. Spent a month in hospital. Only 1 hot nurse :| But I'm home now. And recovering quickly! And FYI, I was not drinking, or under the influence of any drugs.

My name is Shawna Dillabaugh, Andrew is a very good friend to our family and in particular to my brother. They have been featured on several news casts as well, but he swears up and down that his phone was the light he needed.
