when a customer orders one item, there is a good chance they will eat it immediately on the go. If staff asked the customer "do you want a bag for that?" many people would say no. That would save thousands of brown paper bags being discarded before customers have even left the store - saving McDonalds money and saving the environment by reducing the amount of bags that need to be produced.
