As a self check attendant can I make a few self check suggestions?


Change Mobile Pay to Kroger Pay

As a self check attendant I am beginning to realize few customers actually understand what Mobile Pay means. Most people who pay with their phone end up selecting the button because it makes sense right? Not really. As an self check attendant each time a customer selects this button we often have to go over and educate the customer on what the button means. Most of the time customers don't care and don't assimilate the information. Now I just walk over and fix it for them because I'm tired of customers arguing with me regarding the machines and how they should be simple but are not coupled with insults to the attendant regarding the issue. This is an ongoing battle and it's getting old. Might I suggest labeling Mobile Pay as Kroger Pay instead?

Customers negligently forget to select card payment option

Another common inconvenience is that customers forget to select the payment option. They'll insert their card payment and stair at the machine and just stop. They get irritated that they have to wait several minutes. I use to walk over and explain it to them or even finish it for them but most of the time the average individual figure out "Oh I have to press the payment option." Now I wait for them to flag me down. I walk over and just tap the card button and it finishes in seconds. I use to do it a minute or so after they began to stair at the machine but I learned most people don't want the extra intrusion. They get irritated and make a few nippy insulting comments to the cashier about how they already paid and how the machine should just select the payment option or how stupid this whole process is. In addition to other insulting comments to the attendant. This is an ongoing battle and getting old working with frustrated clients that forget to select a single button. Might I make a few suggestions: Instead of the machine speaking it once when they select the payment button let it repeat every 20 seconds or so until payment option is selected. Or after a minute it detects the card and idol action and selects the card for them. This would also assist the sco attendant when we are busy or assisting another client. Or if a customer walked off without finishing it. The other option would be to let the machine detect the card payment and let it automatically select it. The only disadvantage of this is if the customer inserts the wrong card and it quickly finishes the payment before they have the chance to correct it.

Security check for extra large orders at self check

I understand orders of all sizes are allowed through self check out. If an order over say $300 comes through self check might we have a security over ride check to double check that all went well? I have noticed that my location in particular is a hot spot for theft if a customer takes a large order through self check.


Single bottles should be recognized

When a customer scans a single bottle of alcohol it just speaks "Item not found." and continues to scan. When they pay it security checks them and we come over and realize this. If they cram several items into a single bag we often don't see this and they get a free beer. Could we please have the single bottle scan as single bottle for customer convenience? Or when a customer scans a single bottle it locks the machine and the attendant needs to come over and assist. I feel the company looses a lot on this. The other thing the single bottles do is scan as a six pack and the customer ends up over paying and we end up refunding them.

Gift card safety net

Ps. Thank you for adding in a safety net regarding gift card transactions. Before the 500 system it use to be there but it disappeared when the chip cards came out.
