Solar Powered Cars

My 7 year old son George has just explained to me that instead of electric powered cars it would be easy to rig up solar panels on the roof that are attached directly to the battery to charge via the Sun.
I expect this concept has already been founded and more than likely in prototype, however I was in awe of his way of thinking that I wanted to share this with you, I used to work for a local car dealership on the isle of wight and did the marketing hyundai within the dealer ship, I was pregnant with my son when I worked there.
