The Automobile Child Safety System

Chrysler Other Idea

Submitted 4 years ago

The automobile child safety system will consist of changes to the automobile computer program and should not need any hardware changes to the automobile. The automobile computer will use existing inputs and outputs to reduce or eliminate the risk of leaving a child in a parked vehicle. The system would determine if a child might have been placed in the back seat of a vehicle and set off an alarm if the child is not removed from the vehicle after the end of the trip. The system would be activated when a back door of the vehicle had been opened and then the ignition was activated within a reasonable period of time. These two inputs are the back door switch and the ignition switch. At the end of the trip, when the ignition switch was shut off, the driver would then have a reasonable period of time to open the rear door. If the rear door was not opened, the horn would be activated in the panic mode. The horn would only be turned off when the rear door was opened and remained opened for a period of time. This system would require the driver to check the back seat area once the alarm was activated.
