Having different and unique roles to chose from that affect the gameplay style, and a vast variety of tools and weapons chosen before every mission and take into each level and used at the players discretion. Not all can be chosen so there is more strategy involved. An intel system before a mission so a player had a frame of what kind of gameplay they'd like to pursue and chose their equipment appropriately. But some intel may be wrong or sabotaged as to make the player really feel the effect of an ambush or unexpected scenario. And different out comes for different decisions.
