Making Skylanders More Welcome To New Players

Activision Product Improvement Idea

Submitted 7 years ago

During the writing of this idea, Toys R Us was having a sale on Skylanders single figures/items/vehicles (Imaginators was not included) for $2.99 each. I was new to the series and figured that this would be a great way to start (and save money as well).

So I went to my local Toys R Us and they disappointed me greatly. From my list of about 40 items (from four Skylanders titles), they only had 1. I had researched online that having all of the element figures would unlock everything (mostly) in the game. Plus having certain Swap Force figures would be useful, as well as having certain Trap Masters. Right now my expenditures for Skylanders is just 3 dollars. I was planning on spending around 200 dollars since I wanted to get 4 of the 6 Starter Packs (Giants/Swap Force/Trap Team/Superchargers).

My idea is this:

Make special packs for people who want to get the full enjoyment of the game, without having to spend days and days (not to mention a lot of money) trying to first find the figures and then play the game. My pack idea is as follows for these games.

Giants- Have one pack of 7 (since you get 1 Giant in the Starter Pack) for the Giants.

Swap Force- Have two packs of 7 (since you get 2 swap-able figures in the Starter Pack) for the swap-able figures.

Trap Team- Have two packs of 8/7 (since you get 1 Trap Master in the Starter Pack) for the Trap Masters. Also, do a Knight Light/Mare 2 pack.

Superchargers- Have two packs of 8 (since you get two figures in the Starter Pack) for the figures, and then two packs of 9/8 (since you get one vehicle) for the vehicles.

With these packs, now someone could get them along with the Starter Pack and enjoy the game without having to deal with the disappointment of being locked out of an area. If you were to price each item at 3-4 dollars each, the pack price would be very reasonable. Then if that person wanted to try and get the other figures, they could still check their local Toys R Us or shop online and see how that goes.

Of course, if these packs were to become popular, then you could do the same for the smaller figures in each series (minus Superchargers).
